BUTTOCK AUGMENTATION

BUTTOCK AUGMENTATION

Buttock augmentation, also called gluteal augmentation, is a body contouring procedure that can enhance the shape and size of the buttocks. It helps to improve the contour, size, and shape of the buttocks. This is usually done using buttock implants, fat grafting, or a combination of the two.

TYPES OF BUTTOCKS AUGMENTATION

There are two types of buttock augmentation which include

  1. Butt Implants
  2. Fat Grafting

BUTT IMPLANTS

This is performed using general anaesthesia to limit pain and discomfort. It starts with the creation of an incision in the centre of the buttocks crease. A pocket is then formed above, below, or within the gluteal muscle. The implant is carefully placed within the pocket before completing the procedure by closing the incision with sutures. Buttock implants are silicone-filled devices that are surgically placed deep within the tissues of the buttock. Butt implants are usually firmer to the touch.

FAT GRAFTING

Fat grafting is the most popular method of butt augmentation. It is also called the Brazilian butt lift. Here, the doctor starts by removing fat from an area where it is not wanted e.g. stomach, thighs, or upper back. The fat is then injected into the buttocks. Results are immediately visible. However, you won’t see the final result until after a year. This is because it usually takes time for the body to form new blood vessels and incorporate them into the grafted fat.

AFTER THE SURGERY

Whether you opt for fat grafting or implants, you cannot sit or lie on your back for three (3) weeks post-butt-augmentation. After butt augmentation, most patients usually experience light to moderate pain, swelling, and bruising in buttocks and the fat harvest area (in case of fat grafting). All those will subside on their own over time. Most patients can return to work after 1 to 2 weeks after their surgery and can resume strenuous activities within 6 weeks.

RISKS

Despite the high success rate, buttock augmentation surgery still has its risks. Some of the most common ones include excessive bleeding after surgery, pain, scarring, skin discoloration, infection, and many more.
